点评:This science gateway opened in October 2023. Bring a fully charged mobile phone and water. Booked online prior to our trip. That worked well. To get a guided tour at CERN you have to book it using your phone AFTER you check in at the museum. That was a bit stressful. You have to be persistent. We arrived around noon for a 12:30 pm check in and we tried to book a tour for 2:00 and 2:30 and struck out. We had a great lunch in the Big Bang Cafe (order lunch via a QR code) then we went to the auditorium to watch some introductory films. In the process, we scored a 3:00 pm guided tour in English. We also caught the Proton Show which is presented in both French and English simultaneously. Between the films and the Proton Show, we got enough of an update from our high school physics from 30+ years ago to really enjoy the Synchrocyclotron guided tour with a real physicist who works at CERN! We didn’t get a chance to visit much of the exhibits but the tour takes you to places you don’t see in the exhibits. Those who would most enjoy this are those who have an interest in science and/or school aged middle or high-school students who have been given a bit of background information in physics concepts and how physics, specifically small particles, concretely affects their daily life and how current research is applied in new technologies from mobile phones to medical technologies.
