点评：I booked this trip without checking any reviews, so was apprehensive about how it would go when I read the negative reports the night before. Given the dire reviews, this experience actually surpassed our expectations and we had a lovely day out.
The lowdown - this is basically a public ferry service to get you from A to B. It’s not a “luxury” or sightseeing cruise. There’s no information presented to you, you don’t get a friendly chat with the captain… you just board the boat and get to the destination…simple.
Is it a rip off? In my opinion, no. The private tours we looked at were upwards of 1000 euros, 450 for a shared small boat. We didn’t want to drop that much cash on a day trip, so 140 euros for this journey felt about right for the experience.
Logistics - we arrived 20 mins before departure and it was already rammed, we just managed to get a seat downstairs. There’s a basic cafe onboard…get in early as queues built steadily throughout the day. After we reading the reviews we decided to take our own picnic and drinks, which was a lifesaver. We used the boat cafe as a back up for more water or drinks.
The destinations were beautiful and I’m glad we’ve visited them. Yes, the Balos lagoon is crazy busy but it’s large and people had plenty of room to chill and swim. We paid 20 euros for two sunbeds and shades, there were plenty available by the time we arrived. There were dustbins all around the beach and we didn’t find it dirty.
On the island it felt more run down and in need of some infrastructure. We did the hike up to the castle, admired the view and had a quick swim. It’s a rocky beach so water shoes are helpful.
The environment - let’s be honest, if this was England we’d probably control the visitor numbers and have a better system in place to protect the natural environment. It’s not really a fair comparison given the differences between our countries.
Overall - go into this with your eyes open, a big picnic and a positive outlook and you’ll have a great day out
