A visit to see the donkeys with a bonus of a pretty village and harbour
Clovelly Village的点评
点评：Returning after 50 years as I had happy memories of the donkeys as a very young child. This time I was bringing my daughter and 3 young grandchildren to see them so the entry cost wasn’t an issue for me as I’d pay more to take them to see donkeys and pay for parking elsewhere and with here we’d have the addition of seeing the pretty village and the harbour too!
Excited for my nostalgic return we joined a very small queue at the visitor centre and approached the lady at the right side of counter when it became free. Sadly we weren’t greeted with a warm welcome instead she rudely asked if we were taking part in the regatta and pointed to a sign above her head stating something about the regatta which we hadn’t noticed. We said no and she replied in a rude tone that she was taking only regatta entry’s so I apologised that I hadn’t noticed the sign and went to move back to queue on the left when she snapped, well you’re here now so I may as well take payment while it’s not busy. She looked towards my 18 month old granddaughter in a pushchair and said you’re not planning on taking that are you, meaning the pushchair we gathered, and went on to say it’ll be steep to get that down and all the way back up the cobbles but it’s up to you. We decided to still go and as an afterthought she said if the children want to see the donkeys they’re in the field but will be going soon!
We didn’t find the donkeys in a field but found 3 of them in the stables eating so carried on down the cobbles in the hope we’d see them again. The village was as pretty as I remembered but steeper however we managed between us to get down with the pram. We didn’t go into any of the places in the village going down so couldn’t comment on them. The children are quite young and we’d specifically gone to see the donkeys and the harbour. We did however watch the boats taking part in the regatta and had a drink in the lovely pub where the staff were friendly and then the children enjoyed some time on the beach amongst the bustling atmosphere of the regatta entrants.
It was only whilst visiting the toilets before our dreaded trek back up that we noticed the land rovers! I spoke with Paul Tyler, one of the drivers to enquire if anyone could use them or if it was specifically for regatta or hotel use. Paul was very friendly, explained we could use them and went on to be very informative when he spoke fondly about the village. He and one of his colleagues helped us with the pram and was brilliant with the children and getting them into the Land Rover. He restored my faith in customer service there, a credit to Clovelly Village so think he deserved a special mention!
Back at the top you have to go through the gift shop and past the pay desks to get out again. My granddaughter let out a squeal as we entered which the rude lady at the desk commented to her colleague as we approached them, that’ll be the one that just half scared me to death! Her colleague on the other hand was lovely with the children and spoke with them about their visit whilst checking the quiz sheet they’d filled in during our visit. The children were directed to choose a free toy from a stand for filling in the sheet which was a lovely bonus.
All in all a lovely trip but a little disappointed we didn’t see so much of the donkeys.
I would recommend that the rude lady at the front desk be given a non customer facing job as it’s clearly not for her as there have been past comments in feedback regarding this too! Would also recommend providing information about the Land Rover service and the donkeys itinerary at the desk too.

我们在田野里没找到驴子，不过在马厩里发现了三只正在吃东西的驴子，于是我们继续沿着鹅卵石路往下走，希望能再见到它们。那个村庄和我记忆中一样美丽，只是坡道更陡了。不过我们齐心协力，最终还是推着婴儿车顺利下了山。下山时我们没有走进村里的任何地方，所以无法对其作出评价。孩子们年纪还小，我们此行的目的就是想看看驴子和港口。不过，我们确实观看了参加帆船赛的船只，还在一家氛围宜人的酒吧里小酌一番，那里的员工十分友善。之后，孩子们也在充满热闹氛围的海滩上尽情玩耍，周围都是参加帆船赛的人们。
直到我们要踏上那段艰难的返程之路前去使用洗手间时，我们才注意到那些路虎车！我询问了其中一位司机保罗·泰勒，想知道是否有人可以使用这些车，或者它们是否仅供帆船赛或酒店使用。保罗非常友善。他解释说我们可以使用那些设施，接着又满怀深情地谈起了那个村庄，提供了很多有用的信息。他和他的一位同事帮我们搬运行李车，对孩子们也呵护有加，还协助他们登上路虎车。他让我对那里的客户服务重拾信心，真是克洛弗利村的骄傲，我觉得他值得特别表扬！
回到入口处后，要出去的话必须先穿过礼品店，再经过收银台。我们一进门，我的孙女就兴奋地尖叫起来。当我们走近前台时，那位态度粗鲁的女工作人员对她的同事说：“就是这个小女孩，刚才差点把我吓死！”不过她的同事对孩子们可亲切了，一边检查孩子们参观后填写的问卷，一边和他们聊起这次参观的体验。孩子们还被允许从陈列架上挑选一件免费玩具，这真是个贴心的惊喜呢。总的来说，这是一次很愉快的旅行，只是有点遗憾没能看到太多驴子。
我建议把前台那位态度粗鲁的女士调到不直接接触客人的岗位上，显然这份工作不适合她；之前的反馈中也出现过类似意见！另外，也建议在前台提供有关路虎车服务以及驴子活动行程的相关信息。
