Kendal Castle的点评
点评：Kendal Castle was built around 1184–1200, as it’s been in decline since the 15th-16th century, it’s a ruin and has been for centuries, Edinburgh Castle it is not. Its on a steepish hill, overlooking the town, all ascents involve a climb uphill to the top. There is a lovely panoramic view of the town and surrounding Lakeland hills, once up there. Locals use the Castle mainly to walk their dog or for exercise. Other than the ruin and a couple of information boards and the odd bench, there is not much to see. The council, who own the land, do not keep some of the surrounding area, at its best.
Certain parts, at the bottom perimeter have thick mud in winter or after lots of rainfall, so be prepared and wear appropriate footwear. It’s not really suitable for prams etc, but if you want to take one, the best entrance for them is off the Castle Road entrance, by the ‘kissing gate’. The other entrance is at the top of ‘Sunnyside’ which leads on from Parr Street, to the side of Fletcher Park. This involves a steep walk up hill, through another ‘kissing gate’ and up some steep steps, with a handrail. The ‘Parr Street’ entrance is the best if walking from town. At the front of the Town Hall, opposite Home Bargains, turn left into Lowther St, walk down the street on the RHS. At the very bottom, turn right and walk along the river, until you reach the footbridge. Walk over the footbridge to the main road on the other side. Cross the road at the zebra crossing, turn right and walk a short distance until you reach ‘Parr Street’ turn left into ‘Parr Street’ (street sign says Parr Street, leading to Aynam Court & Sunnyside). Walk to the very top of the street (Sunnyside), to find the entrance to the Castle grounds.
