点评:We stumbled on the parish church of St Laurence's as we cut through the historic lane ways of Ludlow. This tranquil haven in the midst of a buzzy market town is supported by a band of enthusiastic and friendly volunteers.
What stuck me most was how the space has adapted to meet the spiritual and social needs of the local community. Pews have been replaced with seats making the space suitable for concerts and services, and there's a children's area where they can read and colour while their parents pray.
We climbed to the top of the bell tower to be rewarded with a 360 degree view of Ludlow and the Shropshire countryside. After decending the 201 steps, we gravitated to the café for coffee, quiche and cake, all of which were delicious and reasonably priced.
A special mention to Derek and Craig who brought to our attention the mediaeval stained-glass windows, ornate stone carvings and exhibition on how the site has evolved over the years.
The coffee and gift shop run on a non-profit basis and all donations are used for the restoration of this beautiful building. I'd highly recommend a visit.
