点评：After passing the Uncle Remus Museum on several previous trips through Eatonton, I finally made time to visit—and discovered far more history than I expected inside this small cabin.
I explored the museum with a knowledgeable docent who explained Joel Chandler Harris’s connection to Eatonton, his early work as a printer’s apprentice, and the influence Joseph Addison Turner had on his life. The tour also provided important context about the African folk traditions that Harris later adapted into the Uncle Remus stories. I appreciated that the museum presented this complicated history in a thoughtful and respectful way.
The front room is especially memorable, with a large mural and shadow boxes containing hand-carved figures of the story characters. The second portion focuses more closely on Harris’s life, while the Turner Office and Library Wing recognizes Turner’s role as his mentor and benefactor.
Allow approximately one hour to explore the museum and speak with the docent. I also recommend spending additional time in Turner Park, where you can see wooden character statues, take photographs, and visit the historic blacksmith display.
Free parking is available near the museum entrance. This is a worthwhile stop for visitors interested in Georgia history, literary history, museums, or distinctive roadside attractions.
