Teatro Regio的点评
点评：We were shocked to see this political banner on the facade of Teatro Regio.
The banner is right next to the Tourist Office. When we went there to say the banner made us feel threatened and unsafe, the lady in the Tourist Office just shrugged and said “it’s freedom of speech”.
In our view this banner is inappropriate and should be removed.
A historic opera house is a civic monument and a house of art, not a billboard for a contested political campaign. The exterior of Teatro Regio belongs to the city, to visitors, and to the public that funds the institution. It is not an appropriate place for a slogan that takes a side in a war nowhere near and not involving Parma and in a dispute on which reasonable people, including your own audience, deeply disagree.
This is especially damaging because the theatre stands in the historic centre, next to the tourist office. Many people arriving in Parma see that façade first. They come for Verdi, for the building, and for the city. They do not come to be met with a political demand. A tourist office exists to welcome visitors of every nationality and background. A partisan banner beside it turns a public welcome into an official-looking statement. That is not hospitality. It is an imposition.
It took us some time to overcome our shock and it ruined our trip to Parma.
