点评:This was the most intimate and immersive of the prehistoric art sites that we visited. At points, visitors are within touching distance of the art. There were about a dozen in our group and we felt free to ask questions or make comments throughout the tour. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and spoke very good English. The paintings have suffered damage and are faded but the guide expertly revealed them with his torch and as they emerge they are breathtaking (although the highlight for me was the hand stencil).
The staff in the ticket office control when you are allowed out of the back of the office and on to the path that leads up the hillside to the cave. If you are there on time (which is 30 minutes before your tour begins) you have 25 minutes to reach the top, where there are seats and good clean toilets. The website says that the path is 400 metres. The path begins with about 20 steps and then there is a broad flat concreted path in very good condition. The gradient varies but at its steepest is no worse than a Cornish village. It took five minutes of slow and steady walking to reach the top, meaning that I could have rested for 20 minutes on the way. The guide was waiting in the hut at the top and at the appointed time he took us up another 20 or so steps to the cave door. The cave itself is narrow at points, and people of average height and above have to mind their heads at a few points, but the surfaces underfoot are fairly safe and the lighting is well thought out. I am not claustrophobic but I can feel uncomfortable in confined spaces and at no point did I feel uncomfortable in this cave.
I have read reviews (from previous years) complaining about the staff in the ticket office but I found them pleasant and helpful.
