Pontcysyllte Aqueduct的点评
点评：The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a magnificent structure. Designed by civil engineers Thomas Telford and William Jessop, it took ten years to design and build this 345 yard long aqueduct to carry the Lllangollen Canal across the River Dee in the Vale of Llangollen. Standing at a height of 127 feet, it is the highest canal aqueduct in the world and its length makes it the longest in Great Britain. It is certainly worth walking across but, if you cannot manage that, take a trip across it in a canal barge from Trevor Basin. If you want to see it from a distance, there is a signed path which points in the direction of a scenic view. However, because the trees have grown so high, it's difficult to get a clear view of the aqueduct. You get a much better appreciation of its 'immensity' if you are able to take the steep steps down to the base of the arches. It's a fairly difficult climb down and up but well worth the effort. Not to be missed if you are in the area.
