7 days in Masoala with Jean-Emile – Recommended!

点评：My wife and I spent a week in Masoala National Park at the end of May 2026, and it was for sure one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Madagascar. Expect pristine rainforest and stunning untouched beaches with excellent snorkling opportunities. We saw an incredible variety of wildlife, including lemurs, snakes, gekkos, chameleons, and countless species of marine life.
If you're looking for a guide, I highly recommend Jean-Emile and his team. With more than 20 years of experience in Masoala, Jean-Emile is an exceptional wildlife tracker and a genuinely kind, funny person to spend time with. The team also includes two chefs who prepare three excellent meals a day, as well as a skilled captain.
I first contacted Jean-Emile via WhatsApp and found him consistently responsive, professional, and clear in his communication. We paid in advance using Orange Money, and everything went smoothly.

If you decide to fly from Tana, keep in mind that there is currently only one flight per week, so you'll likely be staying for seven days. Our itinerary included one night at Farankaraina Private Park, four nights at Hyppocampe Lodge in Masoala, and two nights on Nosy Mangabe.
Masoala/Nosy Mangabe is still off the radar for most visitors to Madagascar, which was part of its charm. During our entire stay, we encountered very few other tourists and often felt like we had the place to ourselves. Nosy Mangabe had some real Robin Crusoe vibes.
One thing to be prepared for is the climate. At least during our visit, the area was extremely tropical, humid, and wet. Sunshine is not guaranteed, and clothes can stay damp for days. That said, I would wholeheartedly recommend Masoala to travelers looking for an adventure!
