点评:Firstly we visited the cafe, nobody else was waiting for service when we arrived. We were asked to sit down and somebody would come to serve us. The young woman with long reddy brown hair tied back was busy chatting to the waitress with fair hair. Then the same young woman with darker hair tidied another table near to us. More than six minutes later, the fair haired waitress came to our table. Once our order was taken we were served promptly. The gluten free cake was nice, and the coffee was nice.
We then went to look around the museum. We were greeted by a friendly enthusiastic lady who directed us to follow the sticker footsteps on the floor to the special exhibitions. The hall has a Roman mosaic, and is lovely building. The dinosaur section was interesting and looked child friendly with fun interactive exhibits.
It was a bit too hot in many of the rooms which meant we probably would have stayed longer if it was cooler.
There was a great exhibition called Treasure Lost and Found'. I did try to see the owners name on the Royal Saxon sword, but it looks as if that was on the back, which we could not see. A mirror behind it would help visitors to see the name, or turn it the other way around. There is probably reasoning behind telling us there is a name on the sword, and then not displaying it in a way that we can see the name, but they don't tell us the reason.
I really loved the Thomas Hardy room. It was really interesting seeing his history, including a painting of his mother. I felt moved to see his little baby bonnet and his little cup with the rural picture on it.
We really enjoyed the Frink exhibition as well, she was a great sculptor.
Overall a great museum. Kids would probably enjoy the dinosaur and Roman exhibits best.
