点评:The Museum of Cardiff is inside the old library building on Trinity Street. As soon as you walk in you are in the main galleries showing how the place grew from a small market town into a big port. What we liked most were the personal story pods and the everyday objects people from Cardiff have donated over the years. It feels like listening to the city talking about itself rather than reading a textbook which you feel in other museums.
Further in, the City Lab covers the coal boom and how that changed everything. Touchscreens and drawers full of bits and pieces from industrial days and community life. There was also a small temporary exhibition of local photos and community history.
The best unexpected bit was the original tiled corridor. The walls are covered in Victorian tiles showing the Four Seasons and Night turning into Morning. In the same passageway we spotted the original 1880s vertical heaters, still there after all this time.
It is a small, friendly museum that tells Cardiff’s story through real people’s things and voices. Easy to do in a short visit and worth it for the tiled corridor alone.
