点评:Great 4-night stay in Lodge 387 (Longleat Forest)
We recently spent 4 nights in Lodge 387 and had a fantastic holiday overall, especially loving the wildlife and the pool.
THE LODGE (Lodge 387)
The layout is great: two bedrooms, three toilets, two showers, and a bath. The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of utensils, a fridge, a small drawer freezer, a dishwasher, a wine cooler, a kettle, and a coffee maker. They provide a couple of tea bags, coffee pods, a tea towel, a cloth, a sponge, and 3 dishwasher tablets. There is a TV in the living room (sofa fits 6) and in both bedrooms. Wi-Fi was strong and reliable.
Top Tip: Take your shoes off at the door or you will bring the forest inside with you! Also, bring your own toiletries (shower gel/shampoo) as only toilet roll and a bar of soap are provided.
THE WILDLIFE & TERRAIN
The patio opens up right into the trees near a pond. The view is lovely, and wildlife comes right up to the lodge. The ducks will literally walk right inside if you leave the doors open! We saw deer, frogs, birds, and newts. You can also hear the owl at night, though we weren't lucky enough to see one. Make sure to look out for the unique mushroom fungi, and don't miss the fact that Longleat is home to the tallest redwood tree in the UK! You can also feed the fish down at the beach area, and they have pony rides available for kids.
Note that the terrain is very hilly and steep. From our lodge, it was an 11-minute walk to the subtropical swimming paradise. You can walk, cycle, use a scooter, or catch the on-site land train.
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE
You can arrive on-site from 10:00 AM to get your wristbands and park. We have an early check in so Check-in to the lodge was at 3:00 PM, and people start queuing at the barrier around 2:30 PM.
Top Tip: Walk to your lodge before 3:00 PM so you know exactly where you are driving when the barriers open. On departure day, you must vacate the lodge by 10:00 AM, but you can stay on-site using the facilities until 11:50 PM.
SPORTS & ACTIVITIES
We didn't book anything before arriving, but easily booked badminton and pickleball on-site. Prices can vary throughout the day:
Badminton: £17 for 45 mins (very popular, clean courts, equipment included).
Pickleball: £15 for 45 mins (includes court and equipment).
Squash Interactive Wall: £22 for 45 mins. (Our game froze during play, but staff refunded us instantly and gave us a free pool table!).
Bowling (£13 pp) and Pool (£15/hr) in both venues. glow in the dark pool is a bit cheaper
Arcade: It costs £12 for 10 tokens, though we didn't end up using it.
Just Kids Shop: If you are looking for toys, this shop is great and no more expensive than any high street toy shops.
THE SWIMMING POOL
Open 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We went at 9:45 AM and it wasn't too busy. Wednesdays are "quiet time" with no rides or lazy river running. The rapids and slides are brilliant fun— Don't just watch have a go it great fun. Lockers use your wristband, and the changing cubicles have a clever two-door system (enter from the dry side, exit to the pool side). Luke the lifeguard was very friendly!
FOOD & DINING
Las Iguanas : Excellent! We ate here 3 nights. Great portions of steak, ribs, burgers, and chili. The booth service features a fun robot that delivers your food. Staff (Amy, Sidney, and Chloe) were brilliant.
Foresters' Inn: Disappointing. We asked for a well-done steak and it came out undercooked twice. We ordered a chicken burger and got a beef burger, meaning our party couldn't eat together. The second time, the chips were raw. Rowan did take the drinks off our bill, but the menu/portions need improvement.
Supermarket: Co-op prices. Grab cakes here for dessert to save money! The bakery you can get reduce items which is great value (bacon rolls for £1.25) from £3) Recommended the sausage roll
If you want ice cream, the Treat Shop is lovely—it is £2.90 a scoop, extra for a special cone, and 50p for a Flake.
Everything is card only
Overall, a highly active and incredibly fun holiday.
Just Kids
Las Iguanas:
