点评：We highly recommend booking the Half-Day Heli Explorer. Despite spending six weeks in Alaska, this was easily one of our favourite excursions. Even though the day threw a few logistical challenges at our guides, Lena and Dakota, they handled everything brilliantly.
Due to heavy fog, we initially had to wait at the base for it to clear. Lena made this delay a joy. She was fascinating to talk to, teaching us all about year-round Alaskan life, seasonal work, and remote logistics, insights we otherwise would have missed. Once on the glacier, someone in the other party struggled and chose not to continue. The team handled this seamlessly, as base camp staff crossed over to escort the couple back, allowing us to continue our tour without interruption.
Our guide, Dakota, really listened to us. We mentioned we had recently solo explored the much flatter Root Glacier in Wrangell-St. Elias, so he tailored our route to ensure a completely different, high-adventure experience. He set up ropes for us to abseil down a steep glacier wall next to a waterfall, followed by a walk through spectacular glacial slot canyon. Though he warned us our feet might get wet, it wasn’t an issue because Lena had wisely recommended we borrow their loaner hiking boots, keeping our own pair dry at the base. Its worth mentioning that we were given these as options and if any of them don't sound appealing to you, you can say no!
Thanks to Dakota, we tackled technical abseiling and slot canyons we never could have done on our own, and thanks to Lena, borrowing their boots meant we could explore in confidence, knowing our personal gear was dry and ready for our hike the next day.
