The Great Western Greenway的点评
点评：The Great Western Greenway from Westport to Keel is simply spectacular. The scenery is absolutely jaw-dropping from start to finish, with stunning mountain views, beautiful woodland sections and impressive bridges along the route. One bridge even carries you across a bog, which was a real highlight and shows just how thoughtfully designed the trail is.
The Greenway is exceptionally well maintained. During my trip I saw workers trimming hedges and resurfacing sections of the tarmac, which reflects the care that goes into keeping the route in such excellent condition.
I completed the journey as part of a solo bikepacking trip on my e-bike, cycling from Westport to Keel, staying overnight at Keel Camping and returning the following day. The route was a joy to ride, with ever-changing scenery and plenty of opportunities to stop and take it all in.
A special mention goes to the lovely coffee stop at Mulranny, where a mother-and-daughter team run a welcoming café. The mum bakes delicious cakes while the daughter makes excellent barista coffee. It was the perfect place to sit for a while, recharge and enjoy the atmosphere.
One of the best things about the Greenway was the people. I met plenty of fellow cyclists and hikers along the way, all smiling and enjoying the experience. The whole route has a friendly, positive vibe that adds to an already incredible journey.
I would highly recommend the Great Western Greenway to anyone visiting Mayo. It is one of the finest cycling and walking routes I have experienced in Ireland.
