点评:We had a fantastic visit to the Dudley Archives and Local History Centre this past Saturday. I brought my three children along, and the highlight was the fossil activity run by the young geologist on-site.
He was absolutely brilliant with the kids. They had brought their own collection of rocks from home, and he took the time to check each one, explaining exactly how fossils form. He even shared three amazing facts about the Trilobite (the "Dudley Bug") that my kids are still talking about:
Older than Dinosaurs: They lived in the sea over 400 million years ago!
Protective Shields: They could roll into a ball like a woodlouse to stay safe.
Crystal Vision: Their eyes were actually made of calcite crystals (clear stone).
It’s rare to find someone who can explain complex science so clearly and with such enthusiasm. He made the kids feel like real scientists and gave them a much deeper appreciation for the geology of the Black Country.
Our Verdict:
If you have children who love to collect rocks, the Saturday sessions are a must. It’s an incredible, free educational resource right on our doorstep. We finished the day by heading down to Wren’s Nest to put our new knowledge to the test!
A huge thank you to the Saturday team—we’ll definitely be back.
