点评:We were staying two nights in the Navajo Tribal
Park at Monument Valley, and we booked a 2.5-hr tour for 11:00 am with Three Sisters. We reserved the night before and got a rapid email confirmation with complete instructions about the meeting point and the tour expectations. We were joined by one other couple (four people total); it was a perfect, personal and personalized tour.
Our wonderful guide, Amory, was truly excellent at his job. He shared information about the mesas, buttes, and spires in the valley, and the natural landscape came alive with his stories of the Diné (Navajo people) and culture—both tribal and personal. He has a teacher’s heart: we learned some basic expressions in the Navajo language, he skillfully demonstrated with sand and a little water how buttes are formed, he showed us a point with a powerful double echo, and his interest in film history was palpable. We heard lots of anecdotes about the John Ford/John Wayne era as well as more recent filmmaking. We also learned about local life in the valley in the present day and what it’s like to live here.
Amory initially greeted us by saying, “Welcome to my hometown,” and he is a true ambassador of Navajo hospitality. He is also a magician with a camera!
Three Sisters is Navajo-woman-owned, and the company is based in the valley itself (not owned by an outside group). The tour is absolutely worth the price: you get a LOT more than a ride down a sandy road and great pictures. You get a real welcome to a rich and vibrant culture.
Ahéhee (thank you), Amory!
