点评：We didn’t attend a concert or conference at Harpa, but you certainly don’t need to be attending an event to appreciate this remarkable building.
Situated on Reykjavík’s waterfront, Harpa is architecturally stunning from the outside, but I found the interior even more impressive. The enormous geometric glass façade and mirrored ceiling create constantly changing patterns of light, reflections and shadows throughout the foyer. On a sunny day it was quite spectacular.
The façade was inspired by Iceland’s basalt formations, and the building went on to win the prestigious European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture in 2013. It is easy to understand why.
Visitors are able to enter and explore the public areas even without attending an event, and there is also a restaurant and a large shop selling Icelandic gifts and souvenirs.
Icelanders should be very proud of Harpa. It is not simply a concert and conference centre but an iconic piece of contemporary architecture and, in my opinion, well worth visiting just to experience the building itself.
