点评:Just enjoyed a lovely morning at the Railway Museum. Spent almost 3 hours here, although you could spend less or more time here depending on how interested you are in the trains. We did pre book tickets online to guarantee entrance but as we visited on a Monday outside of school
Holidays, it may not be required but if planning to visit on a weekend, bank holiday or within schools holidays, it’s worth pre booking online.
Some helpful pointers for those first time visitors:
- if your driving, it costs £10 to park all day.
- for those walking from either from the city centre or train station, the entrance to the museum is all the way around the back of the museum so is further than it looks. even from York train station it takes almost 15/20 minutes to walk so something to bear in mind.
- you can pay £5pp one way to use the land train to get yourself from the museum back to York minster if you want get back into the city centre and to save your legs (which we did). They run both ways every 30-40 minutes or so.
- If you plan to purchase anything from the gift shop, the cheapest bags they have are £3. They don’t have any plastic bags or anything cheaper so either take your own bag or have a big handbag/backpack to put anything you purchase in to save the additional £3.
