The Romans Came, Saw, Conquered… and Forgot to Finish the Renovations! 🏛️
Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre的点评
点评:Well, I have to hand it to the Romans. They certainly knew how to make an entrance!
Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre is an absolutely fascinating place, packed with history and a wonderful reminder of just how much happened on this little corner of the Kent coast.
There’s something extraordinary about standing among the remains of a settlement that was once such an important gateway into Roman Britain. Nearly 2,000 years of history, and you can still get a real sense of the scale and significance of the place.
The ruins are impressive, the surroundings are lovely, and it’s the sort of place where your imagination can run riot. You can almost picture Roman soldiers marching around, important officials looking terribly serious and somebody complaining that the chariot parking is an absolute disgrace.
My only concern is the state of the building work. Clearly, the contractors disappeared some considerable time ago, and nobody has chased them up. I would complain to the management, but I suspect Julius Caesar is no longer accepting emails.
Seriously though, what a fantastic historical treasure. A brilliant place to explore, appreciate our heritage and marvel at what remains after so many centuries.
Five stars! The Romans may have left Britain, but thankfully they left us something rather spectacular to look at.
And frankly, considering the age of the place, it’s holding up better than some modern new-builds! 🤣🏛️
