North Florida Wildlife Center的点评
点评：We visited for the first after learning of the capybara encounter. My daughter is obsessed with capybara, even focusing her class speech on these awesome creatures.
While we found the animals to be in apparent good health and the enclosures clean, we did have a few observations we were not as impressed with.
First, the encounter was supposed to last 15 minutes with a maximum of 6 guest, we got more like 5 minutes and there were 9 people. While my daughter was still thrilled to meet Diego, I felt we should have gotten the full experience we paid for.
Next, the enclosures, especially the aviaries, need to be larger allowing for the birds with flight abilities to actually fly. They are not nearly tall enough. Enrichment is also lacking in many enclosures especially the kangaroos and emu/goat pen. Diego's "pool" is also just a large plastic tub and not sufficient for his semi-aquatic lifestyle.
Additionally, there is a lack of shade throughout the facility leaving many of the animals in full sun for the majority of the day.
Finally, numerous enclosures are lacking signage so we had no idea what animal we were even looking at. On the self guided tour, this is a serious disadvantage.
I want to love this center because it is unique with a lot of potential but as someone with a deep knowledge of exotic animals, I see a lot of room for improvement. I hope NFWC will continue making improvements and enriching the lives of the animals in their care.
