点评:Google Search/AI informed us that there was a Mass in the church in Bethancuria at midday on the feast day of the Virgin de la Pena, 18th September. We negotiated various diversions, road blocks etc to get there. When we arrived, we discovered that in fact the church and the museum were closed for three days, from 18th Sept, during the fiesta! There were a lot of confused tourists milling about, who had obviously received the same info as we had!
As there was obviously nothing happening, we decided to cut our losses and leave, but were diverted yet again, into a gorge, which resulted in us travelling on the narrowest, most scary road we have ever been on, on the road to Pajara and Tuinije. Our lives flashed before us; not recommended for the faint hearted!
So our recommendation is, do what the locals do; ignore the so called "cultural celebrations" that don't take place and celebrate in the pub (or take a hike in the blazing sun in the Barrancos!( the choice is yours!
