点评:A handsome Victorian market (opened 1891) that still feels properly local with a glass roof and two levels. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, with independent stalls selling fresh produce, flowers and crafts alongside a wide range of international street food. Local options include excellent Welsh cakes, Caerphilly cheese and other Welsh cheeses. Upstairs seating makes it easy to linger.
The one disappointment was breakfast. Just before 10am only Celtic Corner was open, serving a very good traditional English breakfast with incredibly friendly service. The letter down was that we had hoped for a proper Welsh breakfast (Brecwast Cymreig) with laverbread and Glamorgan sausages etc, but none was available. The Welsh cakes and cheese we bought elsewhere helped make up for it.
Worth a wander for the building, the buzz and the food, even if markets in places like Newcastle feel a touch stronger overall.
