点评:We visited the Jane Austin Centre in Bath having arranged a Darcy afternoon tea followed by a visit to the centre itself. The front of the building is quite narrow with characters outside to get you into the Regency mood on arrival. You will need to present your ticket which is a time entry unless you are going for the afternoon tea which case you go up to the second floor where you greeted by more characters in costume for your afternoon tea. The tea room is small which is nice maybe 20 people could fit in there and the afternoon tea itself was very nice with the usual choice of tea, scone, cake and sandwiches. The staff were very friendly and helpful and a lot of people wanted to take their photographs or get photographs taken with the painting of Darcy on one of the walls. This was a house that originally Jane Austin stayed in and so there are blue signs on the wall describing what each rooms function was in her time. Having done the afternoon tea we then went downstairs to the main reception. The entry time is essentially a time for a small group to be taken through the centre’s exhibition. Our guide was a well known character from one of Jane’s novels Mr Dashwood who gave us an introductory 20 minute talk about Jane, and her family. Mr Dashwood then took the group to several other rooms in the house which had various displays included some rare paintings, photographs, Bank of England notes that referred to Jane, costumes from tv and film and there was the opportunity to dress up and have your photographs taken in costume. There was a room where you could practice writing using a feather quill and ink in the format that Jane used with one of her letters as an example. if you are a Jane Austin Fan or just interested in the history of the Regency period then certainly worth a visit and just a short walk from the Circle and the Crescent and not too far to get to the Abey Raymond Bath et cetera
