点评:We had a spectacular day with Garry yesterday. He expertly and quickly loaded our group of 6 onto the boat because he knew 3 or 4 families of orca were close by. His safety instructions were very clear, and then began his trip-long commentary and observations about our/his environment that were filled with knowledge, respect for the animals, and humour. While he told us no human observer could guarantee sightings, he found at least 17 magnificent transient orcas who were travelling together down the coast line. He then hoped he could find a large group of humpback whales he'd seen the day before. In open water even these huge creatures are not easy to find, but he/we spotted their blows and soon were drifting, engine off, in the midst of 10 or 15 of them. They were feeding, slapping, breeching! - so graceful with their iconic tails. Garry was as excited as we were. In the midst of this, we had a delicious lunch, visited a hundred or so sea lions and had a flying salmon almost land on board. The Salish Sea is such a rich and precious environment, and Garry is one of the best people to guide us through it.
