点评:In Mgarr on northwestern Malta is this gem. Behind the scenes is a family run farming operation. Entering we saw items for sale, be it vegetables, jams or wines. We were introduced to John, a co-principal. He gave us an overview of the working of the farm. Behind him others were bottling products for future sale. We then went upstairs for a video, followed by lunch. Our starters consisted of several vegetables, bread and olive oil. The main course was the local bread filled with the likes of tomatoes, onions and spices. Ice cream with strawberry jam was next, a shot of orange liqueur to finish things off. Only the bread and ice cream were not farm produced. We then went down several spiral staircases to the wine cellar for its story. The local red and white wine were sampled, the latter the better option. Lastly, we visited a greenhouse for tomatoes, pollinated by 400 bees. It took the larger part of three hours but you left with a real sense of farming life and its challenges. This was as Maltese as it got on this trip.
