Beautiful Gardens Set Within the Walls of the Bishop's Palace

点评：The gardens offer a peaceful retreat just a short walk from the busy centre of Wells. The gardens are worth visiting in every season, and there's plenty of history to discover.
Most of the gardens are easily accessible, with good, mostly level paths. The exception is the rampart walk which has steps. Dogs are welcome in the gardens, but not inside the palace buildings. Water bowls are provided at the café, where there is outside seating.
As of August 2026 there is also a wonderful display of botanical sculptures by the artist Jenny Pickford, some of which I’ll include with the photos attached to this review.
There is a well-stocked gift shop and a busy café/restaurant, both of which are open to all visitors (including those who are not paying to visit the gardens).
There is no general visitor parking at the Palace, although limited Blue Badge parking can be booked in advance. Public car parks and some on-street parking are available within a reasonable walking distance.
The Bishop's Palace is an RHS Partner Garden, with free entry for RHS members on Fridays throughout the year and on Mondays during the winter months.
