点评：The total for our family of 6 to go on the Fall “Gateway” train from Utica to Thendara and back from 11:30-4:30 on October 12, 2026 was $330. Our views were underwhelming, the train windows were filthy. There was not a single working bathroom in any of the cars and they were all backed up and really smelly. We weren’t allowed off the train at Thendara when the train reversed to return to Utica. The only decent views were from a “viewing car” originally designed to transport cattle. Do yourself a favor and spend $40 in gas and drive yourselves to Old Forge instead. Then you will have freedom to go outside and enjoy the weather at your leisure. Driving yourself would also allow the freedom to enjoy lunch at a restaurant (the dining car offers only drinks and processed junk - menu pic attached below).
