点评:For over 30 years or more I have been coming to Matlock Bath and not once as a child did I ever visit Gullivers Land.
I frequently looked up high into the cliffs and hills that brood down over the narrow Limestone gorge in which Matlock Bath lies, and imagined what fun could be had up there at Gullivers Land - the tip of which I could just make out from down below.
Well, decades later, and with two small (one very small) children in tow, I found out.
We went with a small group of friends who all had children around the time of our first, and so the day, and the features of the park we were able to partake in,were determined by their limitations of size etc.
But before that, I must stress that this place is high up! The drive up there will put strain on a car of advancing years and lower engine capacity, and the winding road will challenge the unsure driver. You feel as though you are driving into the clouds and it seems unrealistic and unnatural that such a theme park could exist and thrive so high up out of the way of literally everything else Matlock Bath has to offer.
But exist it does, and I certainly hope it thrives. It was certainly busy enough when we were there, as were all the car parks which are set out on multiple levels increasing ever higher up the cliffs.
Whereas in a regular, concrete multistorey carpark the average driver looks to park as low down as possible, the opposite applies in the outdoors version offered by Gullivers Land, where parking lower down can (and did, in the case of our friends) leave you with a steep, uphill foot slog on windy roads that often didn't seem to have any pavement.
The canny parker will go as high as possible (which we did) and have very easy and quick access to the park.
We accessed the park through the turnstiles and the prices (we paid in advance) were decent, given the cost of seemingly everything else in the world today.
Adult and child prices are £31 on the day, or £28 when bought online in advance. You can't get much for £28 these days, least of all a really fun, full day out.
Children under 90cm are free, which seems fair, as there is almost nothing that they would be able to do in the park.
Should Grandparents be tasked with taking the children to Gullivers, and assuming the grandparents aren't freakishly young, then the senior prices are £29 on the day or £26 when bought in advance online.
There are concession prices too, though I have no idea what qualifies you for one of those.
These prices are all true as of May 2026, when I am writing this review (though my visit was back in October 2025!) and so they should not be taken as gospel. These things are always subject to change.
The first thing our party did was go into what appeared to be a type of log cabin structure where periodically there was an animatronic music show. Whilst my eldest daughter (the only one of my daughters who had any concept of what was going on) was initially frightened by the dancing and singing animals, she soon settled in to it and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable introduction to the park.
The park is split into different areas or zones, which is common with most theme parks. The zones at Gullivers consisted of Western World (my favourite), Lilliput Land (with its animatronic animals), Smugglers Wharf (pirate themed), Safari Kingdom, Fairy Kingdom, Explorers Play House and Lost World - which due to its featuring all things dinosaur proved to be the favourite amongst thr children.
We really maximised what we were able to do with the children, given size limitations, as there is so much for them to see and do, and whilst things like the Dino Trail (itself, offering beautiful views over the Derwent valley from way up high) did not lend themselves to people with pushchairs, the children were able to experience enough of it to ensure a good time was had by all.
As the day wore on, the children became more emboldened, and were eventually high up in the sky, frantically peddling the Flying Bikes in Safari Kingdom, or smashing into (and shooting) each other on the Laser Dodgems. The latter of these was also in Safari Kingdom and was a lot of fun. One of the benefits in coming in October was that we were able to go on the Laser Dodgems multiple times with very little wait time.
The only thing that struck me as a little bit tired was the JCB Zone, over in Lilliput Land. This could do with a bit of a refresh I feel. Still, the children seemed to enjoy it.
Elsewhere we rode the Silver Mine Ride and explored the charming (but also, slightly tired) Junior Cowboy Town in Western World, and staggered our way around the Upside Down House in Fairy Kingdom.
One word of caution though - there is a thing called the Cycle Monorail. It looks great - a large monorail, high in the sky, that you can peddle a small "craft" (for want of a better expression) along.
Indeed, it is great fun, but my goodness you have to be fit. It absolutely takes it out of you. Utterly brutal on the legs.
We could have stayed at Gullivers MUCH longer than we did, but children of the ages we were dealing with do get tired, and so the decision was made to leave. However, more importantly, such was the fun we had on the day, that the decision was also made to definitely return!
