点评：Spectacular Engineering — Just Be Ready for the Heat!
We stopped at Hoover Dam on our way out of Las Vegas at the beginning of our Southwest RV trip, and it was absolutely worth the stop.
The dam itself is spectacular. You can appreciate its enormous scale from photographs, but standing on top of it and looking down really gives you a sense of what an incredible engineering achievement it was. I was also surprised by how much I enjoyed the Art Deco architecture and design details throughout the property. The towers, sculptures, terrazzo floors and other decorative elements give Hoover Dam a distinctive character that goes well beyond the engineering.
Our biggest challenge was the heat. We visited in the middle of an August afternoon, and it was unbelievably hot. Walking around outside on all that concrete in the desert sun was intense, so bring plenty of water and sun protection if you’re visiting during the summer.
The museum and indoor exhibits were interesting and provided good background on the construction and history of the dam. They also offered a very welcome opportunity to get out of the heat for a while!
Overall, Hoover Dam was a fun and worthwhile stop. Between the scale of the dam, the remarkable Art Deco design, the history and the surrounding landscape, there is plenty to appreciate.
