Microcosm of Bonaire - Boca Slagbaai

点评：Boca Slagbaai is one of the top places to stop while touring Washington Slagbaai National Park on Bonaire. It has something for everyone. A beautiful bay with a bit of sand on the beach (rare in Bonaire), great swimming and snorkeling, dramatic cliffs into the water and a place to cliff jump if you want, but also has some historic buildings; one of which has a restroom with flush toilets - the only restrooms in the park other than the visitor center, has picnic tables (though they aren't many and on Easter when we visited we ended up on some little benches under trees on the lagoon side of the site, and the lagoon where you're almost sure to see some flamingos. So a bit of everything Bonaire is known for in one location.
As shared we were touring the park on Easter Sunday and it was busy. Lots of locals using the location for a picnic, but we still had a lovely meal. Especially the various colorful songbirds that were around while we ate. After lunch I snorkeled in the bay while my wife waited on shore and waded in the waves a bit. (Note the surf can be strong here and that's why I was the only one to snorkel, but it's not bad at all once you get into deeper water.
Snorkeling was interesting as there is the nice shallow areas of the bay but it gets deep pretty quickly when you get out from the shore or swim towards the corners of the bay. Lots of big boulders in the water to make locations for a variety of marine life. Saw lots of different fish and a parrot fish that must have been 4 feet long and around 50 pounds. It was massive!
Then we spent some time watching the flamingos and drove away slowly along the lagoon stopping a few times for new viewpoints.
This was the best stop in the park. After here it was a pretty long, bumpy road back to civilization but well worth the adventure.
