All Aboard the Pigeon Key Express

点评：How many times have you driven onto seven-mile bridge and seen the island two miles in? I’ve driven by many times. We decided this trip to see what it’s all about. We took advantage of a BOGO 50% deal for our family of four. The price point was quite reasonable.
We boarded the Pigeon Key Express and made our way to the island. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Brian for a brief oral history of the island followed by a walking tour the buildings on the island. In a word, fascinating! Being a Florida native, I LOVE Florida history. Henry Flagler’s vision to run a train from New York to Key West was such a massive achievement. At the conclusion of the tour, there was a fish feeding in the giant “swimming pool,”filled with a variety of fish and two nurse sharks. The boys loved it!
We then opted to take the next train back and snorkel off the west side of the island. The water was crystal clear and teeming with fish, including a roll of tarpon and a couple barracuda.
It took us years to make this stop, and I’m so glad we did! If South Florida history is your sweet spot, make sure you include Pigeon Key on your next trip south of Marathon.
