点评:I like many others came to Steamtown to see the reunion of 2 Union Pacific Big Boys side by side for the first time since 1962.
When I say many others, I am not remotely exaggerating. According to Steamtown Superintendent Jeremy Komasaz they equaled the years attendance of 2025 in the first 6 days 4014 was there. I knew Steamtown would be swamped with people at the beginning. I intentionally waited until second week 4014 was there to visit. While still busy it wasn't absolutely flooded with people like the first 2 days.
Before I go further, you have to know something about Steamtown. The railyard that Steamtown uses is unique to the railroad museums I have visited in that half of it is still in use as an active railyard for a shortline railroad!
Given that, I think Mr. Komasaz and his other Rangers and volunteers could teach a master class in how to handle a massive influx of people all while keeping those people who are not necessarily paying attention safe in a potentially dangerous industrial environment. At one point in my visit, Rangers had to clear a section of boardwalk right next to the two Big Boys so a freight train could run through the track next to the 2 locomotives.
I found Steamtown to be very well run and well worth a visit.
Go on a Thursday thru Sunday and take the trolley ride. It was well worth it.
