Not great place to stay, but good golf courses

点评：We came here to play golf. Both courses are lovely, I wouldn’t rate Fuji course as highly as they do, but it is good. If you’re a keen golfer, it is best to note there is no outdoor driving range or practice area. There is no clubhouse. However, the caddy we had for the Fuji course was lovely and very good. The hotel. This place is stuck in the 1970s. It probably has not been refurbished since. I tried to like its dated decor and its sense of history, but sadly, because it is totally lacking in character, it proved to be just characterless and really rather horrible. We had a premium room but it smelt old, the decor was very dated (as was the bathroom, which also smelt of cigarette smoke), and although we had a lovely large terrace, the constant rain meant we couldn’t enjoy it and because the guttering was broken, we had to endure the constant sound of running, falling water… Which brings me to the overall infrastructure of the hotel: it needs help! During our stay, buckets were a feature in stairwells and corridors. Parts of the ceiling / plaster between the hotel and the golf area had fallen down, this place needs a serious refurbishment programme! If it was refurbished, it could be an amazing place to stay and play golf. The surrounding areas and views are fabulous. Food: pretty awful. Breakfast very basic and their coffee almost undrinkable. Evening food: we made the mistake of eating in their prime , French restaurant on our last night. We arrived at 8pm, were told it shut at 9pm. We ordered, food didn’t arrive until 8.45. My lamb at 9,000 yen (about £45!) was inedible! (I got it at 9.05pm having not had a starter, so I waited nearly an hour for it). I suggest that if you want to play the golf courses here, book somewhere else to stay unless they have seriously refurbished it. The staff, however, were constantly polite and helpful.
