My first smooth-hound at 19lb upon Portishead Marina's Channel Explorer charter boat.

点评：Fishing for big species, I'd never been on an 8hr boat trip. And boy was it hot! But a 19lb Smooth Hound made sure there were no complaints from me! I also had congers around 6lb a piece, and 2 small dog fish. I think everyone caught at least one smooth hound. 6 of us (I think), 12 rods in all and we all caught. And the big smooth hound I caught gave me the most amazing battle I'd ever experienced, a fish aggressively stripping away so much line - the runs, when they bolt; I've never felt such defiance from a 19lb fish! It's determined to win the battle! Sreaming reel, 31lb mainline, cluth tightened as much as I dared, and the line just peels off. And I loved it! When I hook any fish, both course & sea; if it makes the drag scream, I can't help laughing throughout the battle, that heavenly screeching reel drag! A true natural high. So, a memorable boat trip for me. A fully joyful experience. I am DEFINITELY going back soon as I can book next.

As far as the general vibe on the bait? All lovely lads, zero arguments and a very hot day! Admittedly, a lad's day out, though I'm sure they can comfortably cater for those fisher-ladies out there.
Nothing is guaranteed, but these guys know the region and take you straight to the hot spot. Kelly was the skipper on the day. Good bloke, wants you to catch! In fact, a trace he gave me helped catch the smoothound. The skippers of the Channel Explorer will make sure you have the best chance of catching fish. And the 8 hours went surprisingly fast!
