点评:Overall one of the top things I did in Svalbard. The history of Svalbard is heavily based on coal mining and Gruve 3 was a good way of experiencing it.
Our group was quite big, over 20 participants. Most of the tours had their pick-up in the city with a car or a van, but Gruve 3 came with a big bus (saying Gruve 3 in the destination sign). The bus drove right past the seed vault on the way to the mine.
At the mine, our guide Anders gave a fun and enthusiastic introduction to the mining industry in Svalbard in general and more specifically the Gruve 3. We watched also a short documentary filmed back in the days when the mine was still operating.
We then went for a 1-hour walk inside the mine. You could do a 10-meter crawl in the low mining shafts, and in that case you were give an overall to protect your clothing. If you didn't want to crawl, you just had to wear a helmet. For the duration of the walk inside the mine it was possible to leave backpacks etc. in the room where the initial presentation was given.
It was a bit pricey - as is everything in Svalbard - but well worth it.
