An unforgettable window into local life and wildlife around Queen Elizabeth

点评：I spent a couple of days with Nkuruba Community Tours during a cycling trip through western Uganda, and it was a highlight. My guide, Julius, made all the difference — knowledgeable, easy-going, and genuinely proud of his region.
The wildlife was extraordinary. A boat safari on the Kazinga Channel brought us right up to elephants and hippos along the banks, with an incredible variety of birds all around us. On a game drive through the park we were lucky enough to spot both lions and leopards — a rare treat in a single visit.
Julius also took me to Lake Katwe, where salt has been harvested by hand for generations. He explained the whole process, including the hard reality that carrying a 100 kg sack to the shore earns a worker just $1 — the kind of context you’d never get on your own.
Add an elephant wandering onto the lodge grounds at breakfast and quiet crater lakes to return to at the end of the day, and you have community-based tourism done right: authentic, respectful, and directly supporting the people who live here.
