Wonderful experience with the elephants and they took photos for us

点评：Our experience at Maerim Elephant Sanctuary was amazing! The grounds are really pretty, beautiful gardens and a nice pool. There is a lot of land for the elephants to roam and water to swim and bathe in. The employees were helpful and friendly.
The elephants were gentle. They seemed happy and healthy. This is a no-riding, no-hooks sanctuary. We got to feed the elephants and help give them a mud bath. They are all female Asian elephants, so they did not have tusks, which made me feel even safer. They really care about the elephants.
You could bring your kids here. They have showers, full flushable toilets with toilet paper (you don't have to squat). They sell snacks, and they give you water. If you don't have a towel, you can rent one.
The cost was 1600 baht/$50 US per person, which is the cheapest place I have found here. Most places are 1900-ish baht or more for a half-day experience with elephants. They offer both early-morning and afternoon experiences, as well as full-day experiences.
One of the best parts was that they had a photographer taking photos. You can view your digital photo album at the end and purchase it if you want. Ours had over 100 photos. We purchased it and are very happy with our photos.
They provided transportation and picked us up directly from where we were staying, and it was only 30-45 minutes from Chiang Mai, depending on where you are staying. Most of the drive, except the last 5 minutes, was on a straight, paved road. Many elephant sanctuaries near Chiang Mai are an hour to an hour and a half away. We went in March, so it wasn't very crowded because March is low season for tourism. I imagine it would be busier in the winter. I will come back to this place again. I love it so much.
