Breathtaking caves, but organization and queues are a nightmare!

点评：🇮🇹 Scrivo questa recensione per avvisare chiunque voglia visitare le Kanheri Caves (specialmente di sabato), perché molte informazioni che si trovano online sono sbagliate. Prima di tutto: NON si può entrare con l'auto privata. L'accesso è consentito solo noleggiando biciclette all'esterno, oppure pagando per i bus navetta o i tuk-tuk.
Armatevi di infinita pazienza, perché la disorganizzazione regna sovrana e vi faranno fare file per qualsiasi cosa. Ecco le nostre tempistiche esatte per farvi capire la follia:
12.05 - 12.42: Prima fila per il biglietto d'accesso al parco.
12.42 - 13.36: Seconda fila per comprare il biglietto del bus.
13.36 - 14.15: Terza fila per salire fisicamente sul bus. È stato un momento di inciviltà assurda: gente che spingeva e faceva la furba saltando la fila. Sembravamo animali e nessuno gestiva la situazione.
14.15 - 14.30: Tragitto in bus.
14.30 - 14.40: Camminata in salita. Nessuno lo specifica mai, ma dal capolinea del bus c'è un bel pezzo in pendenza da fare a piedi.
L'ultima fila (come evitarla): Finita la salita, vi aspetta un'ulteriore coda per fare il biglietto d'ingresso effettivo alle grotte. Noi per fortuna abbiamo scoperto in quel momento che si poteva acquistare online dal telefono, risparmiandoci l'ennesima attesa. Vi consiglio vivamente di farlo per non allungare ulteriormente i tempi!
Una volta arrivati in cima, le grotte sono spettacolari e ripagano la fatica: davvero mozzafiato.
Per il ritorno, purtroppo, la solfa non cambia: abbiamo aspettato 40 minuti sotto il sole per riprendere il bus e siamo riuscite a salire solo accettando di fare il viaggio in piedi, altrimenti avremmo dovuto aspettare la navetta successiva. Non avevamo portato il pranzo al sacco (colpa nostra) ma, a causa di questi ritardi logistici fuori controllo, abbiamo finito per pranzare alle 16.30!
In sintesi, ne vale la pena?
Se avete poco tempo a Mumbai: Sconsigliate. Tra spostamenti e code perdete mezza giornata solo per la logistica.
Se avete più giorni a disposizione: Assolutamente sì. Nel mio caso, non potendo raggiungere Elephanta Island, le Kanheri Caves si sono rivelate una magnifica alternativa per vedere un sito rupestre del genere. Tenete solo in grande considerazione il fattore disorganizzazione e code.
🇬🇧 I am writing this review to warn anyone planning to visit the Kanheri Caves (especially on a Saturday), because a lot of the information you find online is completely wrong. First of all: you CANNOT enter with a private car. Access is only allowed by renting bicycles outside, or by paying for a shuttle bus or a tuk-tuk.
Arm yourself with infinite patience, because disorganization reigns supreme and they will make you queue for absolutely everything. Here is our exact timeline so you can understand the madness:
12:05 PM - 12:42 PM: First queue to buy the park entrance ticket.
12:42 PM - 1:36 PM: Second queue to buy the bus ticket.
1:36 PM - 2:15 PM: Third queue to physically get on the bus. It was an absurd display of incivility: people pushing and cutting the line. We were treated like animals and no one was managing the situation.
2:15 PM - 2:30 PM: Bus ride.
2:30 PM - 2:40 PM: Uphill walk. No one ever mentions this online, but from the bus drop-off point, there is quite a steep uphill walk to reach the site.
The final queue (and how to avoid it): After the climb, there is yet another queue to get the actual entrance ticket for the caves. Luckily, we found out right then that you could buy it online from your smartphone, saving us from another long wait. I highly recommend doing this to avoid wasting even more time!
Once you reach the top, the caves are spectacular and make up for all the effort: truly breathtaking.
Unfortunately, the way back was the exact same story: we waited 40 minutes under the sun to catch the return bus and only managed to get on because we agreed to stand for the whole ride; otherwise, we would have had to wait for the next shuttle. We didn't bring a packed lunch (our fault), but due to all these out-of-control logistical delays, we ended up having lunch at 4:30 PM!
In short, is it worth it?
If you are short on time in Mumbai: Not recommended. Between transport and queues, you will waste half a day just on logistics.
If you have a few days to spare: Absolutely yes. In my case, since it wasn't possible to go to Elephanta Island, the Kanheri Caves turned out to be a magnificent alternative to see a rock-cut site like this. Just keep the disorganization and long queues in mind!

遗憾的是，返回时情况依旧如此：我们在烈日下等了40分钟才等到巴士，最后只能选择站立着乘车才能上车，否则就得等下一班班车。我们没带便当（这是我们自己的疏忽），但由于这些无法控制的交通延误，我们最终直到下午4点半才吃上午饭！
总而言之。不值得去吗？
