点评:We drove from Madrid to Avila, avoiding the toll route. The road through the small mountains is lovely, forested with mature pines. Afterwards is the pretty town of San Rafael and then a golden grassland. 90% of the roads were very good. We did run into a traffic problem on the way, so didn't arrive until after 2 PM. We found parking on the street and even though it said 30 minute max, we didn't get a ticket after an hour and a half.
The walls are magnificent, as is the cathedral. It costs €10 to enter the cathedral, but as we were running late we didn't bother. Turns out entry to the walls is free between 2 and 4 PM, (8€) which was a bonus, although as we returned, walking through town, most of the stores were closed for siesta. As mentioned, we didn't have time to explore the old town, but we really loved the fortifications.
