点评:I am visiting Arizona from Canada and have been really looking forward to exploring the many attractions in and around Phoenix while visiting a friend.
Today, we were on our way to Tortilla Flat and made a brief stop at Lost Dutchman State Park because my friend wanted to point out the Praying Hands Trail to me. We explained to the attendant at the entrance that we were simply making a quick drive through the day-use parking area before continuing on our way.
Unfortunately, the interaction with the park attendant was quite disappointing. He was curt and appeared less than welcoming when my friend explained what we wanted to do, and we were told that we would need to pay the $20 entrance fee. We paid the fee without complaint and drove through the parking area as intended.
Our disappointment was not so much about the $20 charge, but about the lack of friendliness and hospitality. As visitors from out of the country who are excited to experience Arizona and its attractions, we expected a warmer and more welcoming interaction.
We realize that park staff have rules and fees to enforce, and we have no issue with that. However, a friendly and courteous explanation would have made a very different impression. Sadly, our brief encounter left us feeling unwelcome and was not the positive introduction to Lost Dutchman State Park that we had hoped for.
