Returning from Calais to Dover turned into chaos. Delays stretched beyond 240+ minutes, with zero meaningful communication — just vague, repetitive excuses and no accountability.
But the real issue? Total breakdown of basic traffic management.
No lane discipline whatsoever
Vehicles cutting across each other
No staff, no marshals, no control
Complete gridlock
It got so bad that passengers got out of their cars and physically blocked other vehicles to force their own through. This is something you would expect in a completely unmanaged situation — not in a developed, civilised country with a major operator in charge.
The behaviour quickly turned aggressive and intimidating. Travelling with family, it felt genuinely unsafe and threatening. At times, it felt like things could escalate very easily.
How does a company allow such a situation where basic order collapses and people are left to fend for themselves?
Meanwhile, operators like DFDS and Irish Ferries were running smoothly and maintaining proper flow — highlighting just how poorly this was handled by P&O.
No management. No control. No responsibility.
I will never travel with P&O Ferries again. Avoid at all costs.
