点评：This is a bucket list museum for art lovers! The National Gallery houses a vast collection spanning many centuries. You can easily spend an entire day exploring both buildings and the surrounding sculpture garden. The west building houses an encyclopedic collection of European and and American art from the 13th century through early 20th century. Very impressive collection of Italian renaissance works and French impressionists. If you are pressed for time some of the must see works include the only DaVinci painting in North America, Vermeer’s, Woman Holding a Balance, plus works by Rembrandt, Titian, Degas, Mary Cassatt.
The east building houses modern and contemporary art including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein.
The east building won’t take as long to see, but the building itself is architecturally stunning and modern, juxtaposed with the classic, grand architecture of the west building.
This is one of the world’s great collections of culture!
