点评：Rio Secreto – A Unique Experience in the Jungle
On August 28, I went on the Rio Secreto tour together with my colleagues. From the very beginning, everything was well organized. We first arrived at the reception, where we received a wristband. After that, our group had to sign a waiver. Once everyone had signed it, we were guided to the van that would take us to the cenote.
We had to wait in the van for a little while, which was quite warm. Once the driver arrived, he took us to the cenote. The drive took about 15 minutes and went deeper and deeper into the jungle. The last part of the journey was quite bumpy, but that actually made it feel even more adventurous.
When we arrived, we found ourselves in a beautiful, lush jungle. This is where we met our guide for the day, Pepé. We were given some time to change and received a key for a locker where we could safely store our belongings. After that, we had to rinse ourselves off and were given everything we needed for the tour: water shoes, a wetsuit, a life jacket, and a helmet with a light.
Once everyone was ready, we started walking towards the cenote. When we arrived, we entered the cave. The tour started in a dry section, where we first had to climb down. There was also a professional photographer with us throughout the tour. Pepé and the photographer helped us climb down safely so that nobody would slip or fall.
The dry section was already beautiful, with sunlight shining through the openings in the cave. After a while, we reached the water. The water was quite cold, but thanks to the wetsuit, you barely noticed it. The rest of the tour continued through the water, and we saw some truly incredible sights. The water was a beautiful turquoise color, and Pepé explained everything along the way and shared lots of interesting information with us.
Throughout the tour, many photos were taken. At the end of the cave, Pepé told us more about the Mayans, who used to come to the cave to collect water. He then asked everyone to turn off their lights, making the cave completely dark. He continued telling us about the Mayans and explained that many bones had also been discovered when the cenote was first explored.
It was all very interesting, but also a little creepy, especially because we were sitting in complete darkness while listening to the stories. Unfortunately, this was where the tour came to an end, and we made our way back to the entrance of the cenote.
Once we were out of the cenote, we walked back and changed clothes. Pepé then gave us a delicious traditional Mayan liqueur made with honey and anise.
After enjoying the drink, we had the opportunity to look at the photos that had been taken during the tour. The only downside was the price: the photos were $35 each, which we felt was quite expensive. In the end, we decided to buy just one photo.
After that, we sat down for lunch. It was a kind of walking buffet, and the food was delicious! Once we had finished eating, we took the bus back to the reception, where our cars were waiting.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Everything was very well organized, and I would definitely recommend this tour if you are visiting the area around Playa del Carmen.
