点评：One of the City's hidden gems. Built in the 1920s from the salvaged architectural elements of several European monasteries and castles, the building itself is as much the attraction as the collection it houses.
The Cloisters sits on beautiful grounds in the hills of the Bronx with impressive views of the Hudson River, and the atmosphere throughout is calm and contemplative which makes a nice break from busier areas and museums. The gardens are planted with species that would have been common in medieval times, adding to the sense of place.
The collection spans medieval art and artifacts sculptures, tapestries, architectural fragments, gold and silver jewelry, and everyday objects that offer a more intimate glimpse into the period. The unicorn tapestries are the centerpiece and live up to their reputation for beauty but also a little disturbing. Much of the architecture itself dates to the 1100s and 1200s and is worth taking time with.
Staff are knowledgeable and do a good job maintaining the quiet environment. Admission is the same as the main Met, and your ticket covers both museums, so visitors from out of town can see both in a single day for one price.
