点评：We spent two days at the park. On the first day, we stopped in the visitor center and got our week park vehicle pass (currently $25) and a map of the park asking about the beach locations, where the programs were located, and where the horses were most likely to be found. There are various programs throughout the park at various times. The website was accurate to programs and times. We watched some of the touch tank talk and looked through the museum and gift shop, then headed over to the island. Horses greeted us almost immediately. We saw about 50 of the wild horses total over 2 days. Some farther away in the marsh areas, some along the roadside, some in the beach parking lot, and a handful together on the beach. After driving the entire island spotting horses, we headed to the beach. The South Beach parking area fills up fast. The North Beach had plenty of spots throughout our trip. Both beaches were busier than I anticipated for weekdays. After enjoying the beach for a while, we had a picnic lunch at the shelter. There are four tables in the shelter and some spread out by the bathhouses. (The bathhouses are in pretty rough shape here, but they have outdoor showers and foot sprayers. The restrooms at the visitor center are in good shape.) From there, we went to the clamming program. We didn’t catch any clams, but I did find an oyster, which is pretty rare for the bay area. On day two, we headed over a bit later as we stopped in Main Street Berlin to visit the shops. (Highly recommend stopping here. Parking can be a bit hard to find, but the taffy store has really good chocolate and the creamery is yummy.) So for the island, we started off by going to the bay discovery program and to the crabbing program (our group caught 2), visited the beach, and watched the movie at the visitor center. This is a good location to get a junior ranger badge. The rangers are friendly and the requirements are reasonable and the boys were able to do the requirements without even realizing they had completed them. It was pretty windy on our trip and in the low 80’s. Pack sunscreen and sun covering and hats. Most recommendations are for bug spray, but we encountered no bugs at all, maybe from the wind. The highlight of the trip was probably seeing the horses on the beach. They were running and kicking and playing together. At one point, they headed our direction, so we were running and laughing to stay at a safe distance.
