点评:Saratoga is one of the Nation’s great battlefield parks, both for what happened here and for how well it is preserved. Here are some tips for a successful visit:
-Arrive early. There’s a lot to see. So start with the film in the Visitor’s Center. It starts on demand.
-Talk to a guide, either an NPS Ranger or a volunteer, to help you plan your visit.
-Allow 2 1/2 hours minimum. The park road is one way and 9 miles long. Plan much more time if you want to hike.
-Listen to the auto tour before you visit. Available on the park’s website. It will give you good background. Then listen again while driving the route.
-Try to visit on a weekend when volunteers are manning the sites. We had great explanations from them. (Perhaps call the park in advance to determine staffing levels).
-Read some material in advance to get a historical context. This will help you understand the layout of the battlefield and the importance of the high ground.
-Try to visit in good weather. While some fighting was in the rain, you’ll enjoy visiting more on a fall day with precipitation.
For us, the us was more enjoyable than Gettysburg as it was better preserved and far less crowded. Enjoy!
