In 2001, the museum moved to its current location on West Main Street, renaming itself the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (KMAC). Following an extensive $3 million building renovation, it rebranded as the KMAC Museum in 2016 to project a modernized, expanded image that fosters creative thinking by showcasing contemporary Kentucky artists alongside their international peers. While looking for something to do on Easter Sunday in an eerily empty downtown Louisville, we discovered this museum right across the street from our hotel. We walked right in and purchased two discounted tickets for $5 each, one veteran and one senior. These tickets allowed us access to the second and third-floor galleries. The first floor features a gift shop alongside additional art pieces.
Art, as a noun, is defined as the conscious use of skill and creative imagination, especially in the production of aesthetic objects. Craft, as a verb, means to make or produce with care, skill, or ingenuity.
In total, we spent about 25 minutes exploring the museum. Make sure you look out the windows!
