点评：Even non-technical people will enjoy this visit. Part of the visit is the getting there though. This place, as you can imagine, is well off the beaten path and along the way you will find some incredible scenery. It is a drive to get there, but be patient as it will be rewarded! When you are getting close the VLA, you will see it in a distance-this will give you some sense of the size of it. It is massive. You arrive to a small building that contains some exhibits and a small gift shop. There is a self pay kiosk and it was inexpensive-they take cards, so no cash. We looked through the exhibits inside-and I’d recommend that you take the time to visit them as it will tell you exactly what the VLA does and what it has done. The gift shop is worth a stop too! Next is a walking tour of various exhibits highlighting the VLA and more information about how radio telescopes work. You will actually be able to walk next to one of the large dishes. Be sure and put your phone and airplane and turn off your watch if necessary. The dishes move periodically and it is amazing to see it when it happens. You might end of spending 1 1/2 hours there to walk the tour. Even in early September it was warm but not unpleasant.
