The drive itself is an experience, especially as you pass through the impressive Atal Tunnel, which has made access to this spectacular region much easier. The snow-covered mountains, glaciers and breathtaking valley beyond the tunnel make the journey just as memorable as the destination.
A very important tip for future travellers: hire your local sightseeing taxi only from the official Union Taxi Office in Sonmarg and pay according to the approved rate list. Do not rely on agents, middlemen, or even assume that the driver who brought you to Sonmarg will arrange the best deal. In our experience, it is always better to visit the Union Taxi Office yourself, check the official fare list and book directly. This simple step can save you from paying significantly more than the official rates.
If you are visiting Sonmarg as a day trip from Srinagar, leave your hotel by 6:00 a.m.Starting early allows you to avoid the heavy traffic that builds up later in the morning.
